The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas and doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. Dhaniram Toto documented Toto words to ensure that the future generation could understand the words. Many words were replaced by foreign words. For example dui, which is Bengali for verandah, was being used.

Origins

The early history of Toto which began in 1917, mirrored Japan's rapid economic expansion. In the first half, Toto made products to meet the demands for modern, brand new urban housing. To achieve this, it used the first tunnel kiln in the country that produced ceramics in a continuous flow. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, allowing for more efficiency and consistency.

The company began expanding internationally in the late 1980s to benefit from new markets and sales opportunities. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and marketing other manufacturers' products to complement its own range of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy increased sales and expanded the market share of the company globally.

In the 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus on research and development for water-related household appliances. It also upgraded its system of distribution to better serve customers and increase profit. The company used the same just-in time approach in its supply chain management and sales program. This resulted in a higher level of satisfaction with the customer.

Toto has continued to innovate with regard to toilet technology. The most recent toilet features a powerful, environmentally-friendly tornado flush. The company also uses recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green procurement policy. Toto also manufactures faucets, bathtubs and hand dryers that have higher energy efficiency than typical models.

The company's first museum opened in 2015 and features exhibits on Toto's seminal products and their development and its group companies (all that deal with ceramics) and the history of plumbing and products such as bath units and, in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum also has the bathroom equipped with a WASHLET and other toilet innovations.

Before the formation of Toto members of the group performed sessions with various musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all played on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also appeared on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.
